Another agent told to change advert after initial price includes Help to Buy discount

An agent has amended its Rightmove listing for a two-bedroom home after first advertising it at £220,000.

However, as the description made clear, the full asking price is actually £275,000.

A purchaser using Help to Buy would have – initially – paid the lesser sum but would still be liable to repay the taxpayer-backed loan making up the difference.

A spokesperson for Rightmove told us that its data quality team would explain to the agent that the lower price cannot be used.

The advert has since been changed.

It was drawn to our attention by someone describing himself as “an angry and upset first-time buyer” who claimed that he has found “so many” agents advertising properties like this and believes it is misleading. He said he had been interested in viewing the property until he found out what the true price was.

It is the second time in weeks that EYE has reported such a case.
