In a somewhat depressing sign of the times, a two-bedroom home is being raffled – with participants being set a question of ‘skill’ that involves basic grammar.
The £230,000 flat in Southampton is being raffled by university graduates (you may want to read that bit again) Jess Sharp and Alice Schwausch who pooled resources to get on the housing ladder.
They are selling up as each now has a partner, and have opted to go the raffle route.
Entrants buying £5 tickets will have to complete the question by filling in the gap: “The girls have decided to offer one lucky winner the chance to win – – – house.”
There are three options: “there”, “their”, or “they’re”.
“We didn’t want to make [the raffle] too easy, so decided to set a general knowledge question that people couldn’t just google the answer to,” said Jess, by way of explanation.
It gets worse.
You can actually google the answer in five seconds flat. Alternatively, you could ask someone in Year Two.
Honestly, it makes estate agents’ particulars look right up there with War and Peace. Or do we mean right up they’re?
