Agents asked to help find homes for Syrian refugees

An appeal to get estate agents and letting agents to help resettle Syrian refugees has been launched.

Action group Citizens UK wants agents to contact landlords who might be able to provide homes for some 5,000 refugee families over the next two years.

The group says that local authorities that are willing to resettle 50 refugees each need help to find homes for families in the private rented sector.

The homes should be available on three-year tenancies. The rents would be at the Local Housing Allowance rate, with the first 12 months of rent payable by the European Union under a scheme for placing vulnerable refugees.

    1) 3 year agreements have to be witnessed by a Solicitor
    2) Payment for the other 2 years?
    3) Deposits?
    4) How do we know they’re actually refugees and not illegal immigrant? Which leads me to…
    5) If they’re just illegal immigrant, they’ll have to be evicted, leading to…
    6) More costs for the landlords

Anyone who sees this as a good idea is an idiot – it’s going to be costing the landlords HUGE amounts, not only in damage (let’s face it, they’re not going to understand Western culture and what we deem as ‘fair wear and tear’ – they’ll just disappear and leave it in a mess) but in extra legal costs!

I can think of a few DSS landlords seeing pound signs.
