An agent that sent out a flyer showing how it had apparently succeeded where a competitor had failed was reported – by its rival – to the advertising watchdog.
The agent, Lovelle Bacons, sent out a leaflet featuring two adverts for the same property.
One of the adverts was that of a competitor, Argyle Estate Agents in Lincolnshire.
The text said: “On the market and not sold”.
The other advert was by Lovelle Bacons itself, with the text stating: “On the market with us and SOLD.”
Argyle complained to the Advertising Standards Authority on the grounds that the sale of the property was subject to contract.
Lovelle Bacons said the advert had been sent out in error and it would not happen again.
The ASA has this week filed the matter away under ‘informally resolved’ cases.
The ASA also informally resolved a complaint against Belvoir after an online advert for a property said “reduced yesterday”.
A complainant challenged this, because they had seen the property advertised the day before at a lower price.
Belvoir agreed to remove the claim. Again, the ASA closed the case.
A lot of people have a lot if time on their hands.
What is strange is little complaints such as this getting ASA attention but some of the big porkies the onliners cine up with are ignored!
