Agent ordered to pay over £37,000 after nine HMO failings

An agent has been hit with heavy costs for property offences.

Omar Patel has been ordered to pay £37,279 in costs and fines by Camberwell Green Magistrates Court.

He was prosecuted after an investigation by Southwark Council into nine properties in Rotherhithe, London.

All were found to be lacking in essential fire safety equipment, while eight did not have HMO licences.

Southwark Council said it was the first time it has taken a single management agency to court over so many HMOs.

Patel is director of management companies Let Share and Live Work Study London.

These rogue operators can’t make money if they play by the book.

With this many offences he should be struck off and he is not fit and proper to trade as a proper agent.  These type of operations give the industry a bad name.

100% agree with property poke in the eye – strike them off. They are not a fit and proper agent and should now be on the list of rogue agents.

What we need is a fast track to Regulation and industry qualification to wipe out these operators. Some of us are operating a clean business and can lose out to cheap fee charging non compliant rogues that give us all a bad name and its not fair!

Qualifications do NOT ensure a man/lady is an honest agent.

If qualifications did make a man honest then solicitors would not be in prison, as some are!
