Chestertons is celebrating its most successful year for supporting the Calling London Winter Coat Campaign.
The agent teams up with charity Calling London each year to collect winter coats for the homeless or those who cannot afford warm clothing over the festive period.
Chestertons set up collection points across its 32 high street branches and its Gibraltar office.
The agency collected 3,000 of the total 7,000 coats collected across the whole campaign with one individual member of staff managing to collect 234 coats alone.
The biggest donation came from Chestertons’ Gibraltar office, which collected and shipped 685 coats to London.
Following the collection, a number of Chestertons staff used their annual ‘volunteer day’ to join other volunteers over the weekend sorting through all donations which are delivered to more than 40 charities and shelters across the capital.
Giles Milner, marketing director, and chairman of Chestertons Charity Champions, said: “I love seeing our branches turned into collection points every year and am so glad that we can use our high street presence for such a great cause.
“Our branches see it as a challenge to collect as many coats as possible and it’s great to see what initiatives they come up with to do so.
“Obviously, we are completely reliant on the local communities we are working with, so my thanks goes to every single individual that donated and got involved this year.”
The Calling London Winter Coat Campaign was established in 2011 by Frances Manthos, who said: “I have been so impressed with Chestertons and the enthusiasm of the branches who put flyers through mailboxes, approached local schools, handed out colouring pictures to children and used social media to publicise the collection.
“A huge thank you to everyone at Chestertons. Because of them, every year the Winter Coat campaign gets bigger and better.
“We jumped from collecting 5,000 coats last year to 7,000 coats this year. It’s fantastic as it means we can help more people get that coat they so urgently need.
“A big thank you also goes to staff who gave up their time to come and volunteer. It was an enormous task, but one that was done with so much energy.”
