Agency staff act to keep angry protesters at bay

Demonstrators marching against the Housing and Planning Bill tried to storm into an estate agents at the weekend.

Class War activists were taking part in the march which went from Lambeth to Westminster on Saturday afternoon, ending at Downing Street.

Others on the march including left-leaning groups the Revolutionary Communists plus the Green Party, Liberal Democrats and members of the Labour Party.

The march, organised by Lambeth Housing Activists, part of the Radical Housing Network, reached Kennington Road, when a number of Class War demonstrators took their noisy and foul-mouthed protest to Reeds Rains.

A Class War banner was unfurled outside the agency.

With some demonstrators trying to burst inside, members of staff managed to shut the door.

The protesters were demonstrating against the Housing and Planning Bill’s clauses which include abolition of lifetime tenancies in social housing, and higher “pay to stay” rents for council tenants with a household income of £40,000 or more. They argue that the Bill is socially divisive.

Shame on the Labour Party and Lib Dems for aligning themselves with an anarchist group like Class War – are they really so desperate for votes?
