Advert by agent reported to watchdog over claim on Righmove site traffic

A circular for agents Northwood was reported to the Advertising Standards Authority.

It stated: “Did you know that between Christmas Day and 1st working day in January last year Rightmove had a 195% increase in their visits to their website!!!”

The complainant challenged whether or not the claim could be substantiated.

An ASA spokesperson said: “We contacted the advertiser who informed us the circular had been withdrawn.

“We told them to ensure that in future they held robust substantiation information for any claims made in their advertising.”

The spokesperson said that the offer being promoted on the circular was only available to the Northwood Doncaster, Thorne and Retford offices, but that the advert was branded as Northwood.

The Christmas myth is an interesting one. I am sure site traffic does increase and dramatically so, but are these people serious buyers, or are they people looking for something to swipe whilst the in-laws drone on about camping holidays whilst the roast is cooking.

On another note Fox and Sons were reportedly charging an additional fee if a vendor wanted their home listed on Christmas day
