A developer that is already in partnership with Network Rail to build houses for sale around railway stations is planning to build homes for private rent.
It says that proximity to stations is exactly what many private tenants want.
Kier Property, which set up a joint venture called Solum with Network Rail in 2008, has so far built over 200 homes on developments near three stations.
It is currently working on a fourth at Haywards Heath, and is set to develop homes at Twickenham and Guildford stations.
Kier is now seeking an institutional investor for help fund the development of hundreds of homes for private rent near stations.
It plans to start with 150 homes near Redhill, Surrey.
* Barratt Developments has announced a doubling of profits to £390.6m. It completed 14,838 homes in the year to June 30, with an average selling price of £241,600. Private sales as at September 7 were 30% higher than at the same point last year.
brilliant idea – wish I could invest. most stations should be built over with stacks of flats. would improve the immediate area, often inject vibrancy and bring with it cafes etc, will help hit the new homes target and be ideal for renters and first time buyers – ticks so many boxes…..

Why stop at the stations and land….why not build over the tracks as well and the trains can go in a tunnel underneath.
