Coronavirus: New guidance for inventory clerk services

The chairman of the Association Of Independent Inventory Clerks (AIIC) has issued fresh guidance regarding the rules for undertaking inventories during the second lockdown due to start in England tomorrow.

In a statement to the industry he gave clerks an update in line with the latest government guidelines and best practices:

Bookings

The AIIC believe that all appointments can continue under the existing restrictions, including mid-term inspections.

When completing mid-term inspections there will be a heightened sensitivity when visiting a property so would recommend confirming in advance that tenants are available and willing to provide access, and will maintain social distancing by leaving the property or keeping a two-meter distance.

It is also preferable on all appointments to obtain tenant or landlord details in advance for the purposes of confirming their health status on the day of the appointment or track and trace at a later date.

Other Contractors

The AIIC would recommend all clerks discuss booking arrangements with clients on the basis that it is preferable to complete appointments in absence of other contractors, as their presence, particularly in smaller properties can make social distancing and adherence to the restrictions more difficult.

Where they are present you should aim to manage the situation accordingly and ensure they are also using the correct PPE in line with government guidance.

PPE and Hand Sanitising

All clerks should be equipped with adequate PPE: gloves/masks/hand sanitiser/antibacterial wipes prior to entering a property

You should aim to wash/sanitise hands thoroughly before, during, and after a property visit

Some guidance may suggest that avoiding surfaces is recommended, however, as it part of our job to inspection surfaces and items we would recommend the use of gloves or regular hand santising.

Inventory clerks and other contractors can often travel far and wide on a weekly basis and we need the help of agents and landlords who often coordinate these services to help keep themselves, us and the public to keep safe during these times.
