Welcome to this edition of the Landlords’ Barometer, bringing you trending topics for the private rented sector.
Last month was an exciting and landmark month for propertytribes.com.
Our youtube channel topped 1m views and we also launched our “Smart Landlord Guide 2019” to celebrate our tenth anniversary (see below).
Here is a selection of our most popular and engaged topics:
1. BTL has rigor mortis – no holds barred commentary from investment commentator Graham Rowan
We had to issue a “political correctness” warning with this video, as Graham Rowan returns to Property Tribes TV to give us an update that can be summarised as “diversify or die!”
2. Recession coming – do not invest in the North!
I have heard this mooted many times across social media, so decided to create a discussion about it to find out why people say this. Boom! 96 replies and counting!
3. Labour plans for landlords to pay tenants’ council tax
Renters would no longer have to pay council tax under plans being considered by the Labour Party. The charge would be replaced with a new “progressive property tax” set nationally instead of by local councils and paid for by landlords instead of tenants.
4. Cities swamped with HMOs … ?
This Property Tribes member is struggling to let rooms in his HMO – rooms that used to let in a matter of days are now remaining empty.
5. What are the habits of successful investors?
Lots of great suggestions as to the traits and habits of a successful property entrepreneur.
6. Video Exclusive – Property market debate
Filmed on location at the Property Investor Show at Excel in London, this debate features key industry figures including David Cox of ARLA, Richard Blanco of the NLA, and David Smith of the RLA.
Launch of “Smart Landlord Guide 2019”
Last month, we launched our “Smart Landlord Guide 2019” produced in association with property developer John Howard. The guide features over 80 golden nuggets and hints and tips for being a profitable landlord and celebrates the 10th anniversary of the propertytribes.com forum.
