The College of Fellows which is being disbanded by Propertymark is to be replaced by Propertymark Fellowship.
The College of Fellows was set up to recognise the service of NAEA and ARLA members and allows them to use the designation ‘honoured’.
Members of the College have typically been regarded by advocates as ‘wise old heads’ whose knowledge and experience could and should be invaluable. However, critics have said the College is an archaic institution.
After what appears to have been much deliberation, Propertymark has now said that it has spent the last 12 months trying to work out the route forward, “with a lot of passion” exhibited by College members countered by a determination by the Propertymark board “that modernisation is required:.
The new Fellowship will be officially launched on February 7.
All existing College members will be ‘grandfathered’ in to the new organisation.
New members of the Fellowship will have to be nominated, seconded and then approved by the Propertymark board.
New members in any one calendar year with be restricted to 10% of the current membership.
All Fellowship members will have to pay subscriptions to one of the Propertymark divisions.
A letter to College members says: “A membership will require to be taken out and will not be permitted to be used for trading purposes if qualifications are not held.”
Looks as if the board have found a way to get hold of the colleges reserves and further future control over any dissent of the board. NFOPP should perhaps relocate from Warwick to a small Central or South American state?

I see the lower headline of this story says ‘College of Fellows members to be offered new body’.
God knows, most of them are so ancient they’ll probably be grateful.

It’s like a new football season that opens the way for a new kit to generate more income form the same fans, I’m sorry but this lot are a crock of, this explains why they have been almost invisible this year, they have spent 12 months reinventing the road forward.
So you egoists get another new title to drop everywhere along with what it will cost you and it won’t be cheap, they spent 12 months working on it!
In case you care, Im a 33 year vet, as far as I’m concerned, trained by the best and worked through the ranks until reaching the ultimate goal ( no not MD) and I never wanted to be a part of something like your club, you rarely support or promote your members, who wants to be a member of that kind of club.
Keep the old shirts and thank your fans not punish them via higher costs.

Maybe it’s because i’m full of cough medicine but I really cannot see the purpose of this Those who are accepted into the college can refer to themselves as Honoured but what does that get them? (except for ridicule from the other staff (at least that is what would happen in my office (and rightly so))) Are they really going to put that on their business cards and, if they do, is it really going to get them more business? ARLA membership is dubious enough in its benefits but this seems a step too far unless, as I said, I’ve missed something important (To be on the safe side though I have just changed my title on our internal system to King of all Cosmos so lets see how that goes)
