The number of residential sales lodged at the Land Registry has fallen for the first time in four months.

Price Paid data from the Land Registry shows there were 90,443 residential sales registered with it in September, down 3.2% from August and a 0.69% annual drop.

This is the first decline in registrations since May 2018.

There is a time lag between when a sale completes and gets registered with the Land Registry, but the latest report said 21,016 sales took place in September 2018 of which. 450 were for residential properties in England and Wales priced at £1m or more.

London had the most £1m sales at 251, while there were two in the West Midlands and three in Greater Manchester.

The most expensive residential sale taking place in September 2018 was of a terraced property in Kensington and Chelsea for £14m and the cheapest was just £18,000 for a terraced property in Hyndburn.
