Right To Rent is to be challenged in the High Court just before Christmas.
The Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants says the hearing will take place on December 18 and 19.
The charity said: “This is going to be the first proper chance a court in the UK will have to determine the legality of the hostile environment Theresa May created that conscripted ordinary people into acting as her border guards.
“We are close to ending this pernicious experiment once and for all.”
Under Right to Rent, letting agents and landlords must check that all prospective tenants have a right to live in this country. Breaches can earn both civil penalties and criminal sanctions.
Opponents say that the scheme has led to discrimination and that a number of British-born tenants have no passports or driving licences and lack the documentation to prove they have a right to live here.
So this quango supports the right of illegal immigrants to live in this country? If not, and it’s a case of the JCWI supporting those who may be affected by the Windrush phenomenon (lived here for years but no passport, driving licence, tax records etc) pray tell exactly how many applicants in this category have been turned down when applying for rental accommodation? And where have they been living for the past x years? I’m not personally in favour of estate agents acting as immigration officers but the law is here now and this seems a ridiculous way to try to overturn it.

Good. I take copies of documents for money laundering anyway so it’s not really going to change, but it is not my job to make sure that someone is able to live in the country, that is the police, immigration and border control area!
And it’s very blooming cheeky that they want us to do all of this, whilst taking away our income. Surely if you get extra responsibility, you get a pay rise not a pay cut!
