EYE NEWSFLASH EXCLUSIVE: Adam Day quits easyProperty to join Tepilo and Emoov

Adam Day has quit easyProperty this afternoon after being poached by Russell Quirk to join his newly merged businesses as head of estate agency, covering both the Emoov and Tepilo brands.

Day was himself head-hunted last summer to join easyProperty as head of operations after leaving Hatched, the online agency he founded.

Quirk said this afternoon: “I am absolutely delighted to have persuaded Adam to join us. We have been in talks for some weeks and now he has left easyProperty in order to join us.

“In my newly enlarged business, my concern is to have a senior management team that is of the highest quality, and Adam entirely fits the bill. I am absolutely delighted to bring him on board, particularly because of the breadth of his experience in both high street and online estate agency.”

It is understood that Day will have to serve a short spell of gardening leave and that he will take up his new role in July.

Day said: “This is a real step up given the Emoov and Tepilo positioning as the number two online/hybrid player in the space. With circa 12,000 listings per annum to oversee – and growing – it will be an exciting new challenge for me.

“Russell and I have known each other for many years and respect each other enormously, so I’m glad to be part of the new, winning team at Emoov and Tepilo alongside the existing senior management.”

Meanwhile easyProperty has this afternoon announced the appointment of Russell Humphrey as managing director.

He joins from Yopa, where he was national agency director until February this year. He has also worked as managing director for midlands business Newmans, and prior to that as divisional director for haart.

This afternoon’s easyProperty announcement makes no mention of Adam Day, but quotes John Cooke, CEO of eProp Services, parent company of easyProperty, who said: “Russell Humphrey brings a depth of experience in both traditional and online estate agency, and he is well placed to build on the easyProperty licensing businesses.

“Our investment in Russell underscores our commitment to this sector and, importantly, our continued support in helping independent estate agents win a wider market share in their locations through innovation.”

Founder of online agency losing money jumps ship to an even worse online agency losing even more money, before leaving there to join a merger/buy-out (they can’t decide, as they are both losing money) of two other failing agencies. Madness.

Oh, and less than four weeks gardening leave, brilliant, not worth the paper its written on.

I’m genuinely pleased that The Quirkster has found someone like Mr Day to take up the role of Head of Estate Agency.

He was, naturally, inconsolable when I declined the position – and I was frankly worried that he’d never fully recover from the disappointment.

Adam’s joining will ease the pain somewhat.

Why head hunt someone who keeps changing jobs and hasn’t made any real impact on the role they were suppose to do?

I just think with these for sale by owner sites, it’s about trying to make a bit of noise now and again to keep themselves in a job before the public feel the FSBO doesn’t work.

I think they could be positioning themselves to be bought out by Purple tricks.

This did make me chuckle, having worked with Russell I can’t wait to see what the next Easy Property headline will be!!
That’s why he only last 12 months at YOPA, and for the last three months on gardening leave, he’s not the right man for the job and never will be and I love the statement, “Our investment in Russell underscores our commitment” –
