Another 12 months has flown by and it is that time of year when EYE clocks off for our annual break.
We would like to thank all our readers and our advertisers for your continuing interest and support, your lively comments, and the sense of community you help generate.
Nowhere was this better shown when so many of you came together last January and donated, in some cases repeatedly, to the appeal to try and save two-year-old Florence Jackson, daughter of an estate agent.
Your compassion and generosity were remarkable in your support of EYE’s #FlorenceDay
It is of lasting sorrow that while the appeal was successful in raising its £250,000 target to pay for treatment in America, Florence was never able to get to America and lost her fight against neuroblastoma in February. However, thanks to your generosity, invaluable research into childhood cancers will help other children. Our thoughts are very much with the Jackson family.
Professionally, we know that this has not been an easy year for agents – too few people moving home, uncertainty created by legislation announced but not enacted, more uncertainty created by a snap election and the continuing Brexit process, and no let-up in landlord bashing.
Meanwhile, the competitive tensions in the industry as online players target not just market share but to recruit experienced agents from the high street continue.
Next year looks to be shaping up for more of the same (although like Brenda from Bristol we really hope there won’t be yet another election) and EYE looks forward to covering the news agenda.
With an appeal now in the offing by Gascoigne Halman in the OnTheMarket ‘one other portal’ case, legislation due to bite, and important changes to data protection rules, we do not think there will be a shortage of news – and that is even before we mention the ‘P’ word.
We expect to be back in business on January 2.
But of course if anything major happens, a newsflash will drop into your inbox with a loud digital thud.
A very Happy Christmas to everyone – have a great one – and see you next year!
Thanks Ros. I thoroughly enjoy starting my day with the Eye daily trade news. It forms part of my daily commute and I value the content enormously.
Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

Merry Christmas Ros, all the team at PIE and all the posters on here….whose opinions I love reading. What am I going to do with myself for the next couple of weeks with all the extra time?
Spend it with the family? Whilst I love doing this I need something to keep me occupied in the extra spare time. Think I am going to try and invent an estate agency board game.
If anyone else gets bored over the break and wants to contribute ideas or talk, email me at in@agentv.co.uk
