An agent has set the bar very high when it comes to Christmas window displays.
Haslams, in Reading, Berkshire, has commissioned a unique piece of art from local artist Tom Baker – and we can only say the effect is moving, respectful and imaginative in a way that many a top London store would find difficult to rival, let alone surpass.
Baker created the window display on Monday.
The theme is all about remembering Reading’s wartime heroes.
The display depicts Trooper Potts rescuing a fallen colleague, a wartime Royal visit to the former gasworks building that the Haslams office now occupies, and the famous WWI Christmas Day football match between British and German soldiers.
The display coincided with a fund-raising event held last night at Haslams, jointly hosted with Reading Football Club, in aid of soldiers’ charity ABF.
Guest speaker Jeremy Banning, a historical consultant for the BBC, Time Team and ‘Who Do You Think You Are?, remembered Reading’s wartime heroes, including a number of former Reading FC players who served in the world wars.
Haslams managing director Steve Woodford said: “Recognising and supporting local artists has long been at the heart of Haslams, and we have a permanent art display at the front of the unique office. This will take this to a new dimension.”
Is your agency pulling out the stops for a Christmas window this year?
If so, do let EYE know.

Take the advertising cards out and replace with a poppy display or related artwork – you can have a sign somewhere that says “Pop inside for our Latest Properties”.
Regardless of my personal tuppence worth, it’s a fine display/tribute, well done!
