What a pane! Moped thief flattened after trying to break through estate agency window

Who says there is no value in estate agent high street windows any more?

One moped riding thief found himself knocked over by one after trying to smash his way into Flats and Houses estate agents in Stamford Hill, London, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Luckily for him, he was wearing a helmet at the time and managed to get back on his feet, but was clearly dazed as he stumbled into the office to steal a £2,000 computer.

As the CCTV footage from the Daily Mirror below shows, he escaped on the back of the moped with a friend, and most probably a bit of a headache.

Matt Friedlander, 37, who runs the Flats and Houses agency, said they were alerted about the break-in in the early hours of the morning and had to pay £270 for a new window.

He told the Evening Standard: “The muppets came along with a soft rubber block and they hit the window so hard the frame came off and the whole lot fell down.

“He must have got such a shock. If he didn’t have a helmet on, he would have been knocked out for sure.

“His ears were probably ringing after that. He’s such a mug.”

Police said two males, age 28 and 17, were appearing before Haringey magistrates charged with burglary and aggravated vehicle taking.

There must be an epidemic as we have had 4 claims for agents shop fronts being smashed in in less than a week!

One key thing to note is not all office combined insurance policies cover the window pane as standard. Agents should check their policies, otherwise it’s a costly job.
