Student property portal University Cribs has secured £450,000 of funding to help develop its technology and offer services beyond listings.

The student property search website, which incorporates listings from landlords, halls of residence and letting agents, now has a presence in 27 university towns and says it is worth more than £2m.

Founded by Cardiff University graduates Jack Jenkins and Dan Jefferys, with entrepreneur Christian Samuel, in November 2016, there are more than 150 lettings agents on the site including Campbell Property and Condor Properties.

Students can search by location and view details such as the rent, property details and pictures, and can arrange viewings through the website.

Jenkins said the investment, from angel investors representing leisure and recruitment industries, opens up new revenue streams for University Cribs.

He said: “As the university term starts across the UK, we want to offer students the easiest and most hassle-free route to rental.

“The investment allows us to push ahead with our plans, and make the most of the forthcoming academic year when over 2m students will be considering their accommodation options for the years ahead.”
