Beeny’s Clicks and Mortar show won’t feature her own agency

Sarah Beeny has revealed that her forthcoming Channel 4 show featuring couples selling their homes via online agents will not include her own agency, Tepilo.

On Twitter, property specialist Nigel Lewis wrote: “This is a conflict of interest, surely? Channel4 is paying Sarah Beeny to front a show about 2 couples selling via online agent!”

Beeny replied: “Tepilo isn’t featured in show – simply talking about an emerging market.”

The six-part show is due to feature two couples per episode and run in a prime-time slot this autumn.

It will be called Clicks and Mortar.

She could do with the coverage by the looks of things, she only has 240 properties on Rightmove, when I was running my online agency I always had over 900 properties. Too many onliners now drowning each other.

The producer of this show asked me to appear. When I asked if the viewers were going to be told that the presenter had a massive vested interest in online agency he said no. When I asked if he felt there was a moral duty to inform viewers, he said "No, we will be presenting a balanced programme showing the pros and cons of both sides of agency" I still declined to appear but know that others on this forum did……..I don't watch much telly but this will be very very interesting!

I'm dreading it a little less. The place I valued at achieving circa £350k in 3/4 weeks went on at £400k with an online agent. A month later it's down to £375k and there's now two others on the road at £350k and £345k. Was dreading seeing them overcook it and fluke it.

We all have faith in you surrey1! My only worry is how they edit these type of shows. Agents, including me, seemed to be fine on stuff like under the hammer where there is little point in edits being made for another purpose. But will Beeney really say something like "this is the major pitfall of online agents – they don't care if the property is overvalued as they get their money up front- and you could remain unsold forever, having spent out just to go on the market" or would she say "surrey1 has highlighted the need to make sure that, if you decide to sell with an online agent, make sure the price is correct as you will be paying fees up front"? Like I said……it will be very interesting……will she really show the many pitfalls of online ?

I do not believe that Beeny would take part in a show that shows her model to be flawed, on the contrary and i'm sure she will be blowing the online models trumpet at every opportunity !
