Agents urged to make their views known on CMP

A survey asking agents for their attitudes to Client Money Protection closes this Friday, and agents who have not yet completed it are asked to make their views known.

The survey is being conducted by the Property Ombudsman and is an important exercise because it could help determine whether to make CMP mandatory.

Ombudsman Katrine Sporle said: “We assume a large percentage of agents already have CMP cover in place but we need this survey to be representative of the whole industry – especially those firms which are not signed up with a trade body where CMP cover is already mandatory so we can see what impact any law change would have.

“The survey takes a few minutes to complete and is completely anonymous so we can give the Government a true lie of the land in the autumn, when the official CMP working party meets.”

Shame its a “tick box exercise”

No opportunity to put any comments so what’s the use?

I tried to get the PO to confirm are they asking for a standalone CMP cover but no response. I am aware of one council licencing regulator that is not happy to agree to an insurance policy that “includes CMP”.
