A skirmish on Twitter between Henry Pryor and his former employers Savills has flagged up problems around a Rightmove listing.

Buying agent and property commentator Pryor suggested that a property listed as new was no such thing, and that Savills were ‘gaming’ the system.

The skirmish, however, appeared to be somewhat one-sided, with Pryor tweeting a day later that he had not had a response.

However, Savills obligingly gave one to EYE, with a spokesperson explaining: “This happened as a result of a simple admin error when the listing was mistakenly changed to The Country House Dept from the original office, Bishop’s Stortford .

“The system at Rightmove automatically  flagged it as a ‘new listing’ with a new date despite this not being the case.

“It has now been changed on our systems back to Bishop’s Stortford where it belongs and we are waiting to hear from Rightmove if this triggers another ‘new listing alert’ and how this can be avoided.”

While there is no suggestion at all that Savills may have tried to re-list a property, there is nevertheless considerable discussion online as to whether some agents – particularly online operators – are falsifying their listings.

Rightmove has also announced an inquiry.
