There were 114,850 residential transactions last month, the Office for National Statistics has reported.

This was up from 110,820 in November and compares with a figure of 103,880 in December 2014.

All figures are non-seasonally adjusted.

The ONS says that on a provisional basis, there look to have been 1,231,260 residential transactions last year – up slightly from 1,218,750 in 2014.

The figures compare with 1,670,450 transactions in 2006.
