Two estate agents are among four businessmen stepping in to try and save a football club from going into administration.
Barry Stonhill, of Stonhills Estate Agents, and David Jackson, managing director at Jackson Grundy Estate Agents, are among the four hoping to save debt-ridden Northampton Town.
Today, HMRC is due to bring a winding-up petition against the club.
Jackson was a director of the club until June.
Stonhill is a former director and chairman of the club, known locally as the Cobblers.
In a statement, the four businessmen – who also include former MP Brian Binley – said: “We now feel we have to act positively to try to save the club from administration or even extinction.”
The statement says the four believe their rescue plan has the support of Northampton Borough Council, and that “we are fully aware of the funds required to keep the club alive”.
The best of luck to Northampton Town. They must survive. They might want to consider doing what Portsmouth FC did and let the fans buy the club. As a shareholder and a lifelong fan I have never been happier with where my club is right now.

Agreed, I hate it when clubs like Northampton, with a long and rich history, could go out of business. The premier league should be made to hand over say 5% of its profit to a pot which could be loaned to clubs lower down the divisions if they are in dire straits. Too much money in the top flight in my opinion.

Agree, I hope Northampton survive and Pompy is a great aim for them to go for.
I would however be dubious of past directors which have no doubt played apart in the downfall of the club going back and having a second go. That did not work out well for pompy or rangers …
