Private sales platform says it has had successful launch

The founders of a property platform which encourages DIY home-selling say that they are confident in their proposition.

The founders of EMOH (home spelled backwards) are Haashim Rifaii and Kamran Chaudhry, both 25.

The pair launched the site three weeks ago and say that early online traffic and listings in process have demonstrated an appetite for DIY selling.

They also underlined that EMOH is not another online agent, but a marketplace similar to eBay.

Rifaii said: “We have seen enormous activity on the site since we launched three weeks ago.

“By the spring we feel confident that we will have created a really active property marketplace followed by the achievement of sales.

“The traditional method of selling houses through high street based estate agents is archaic.

“Since most people start their search online before getting in touch with an estate agent, it makes sense for the home owner to sell his property himself.

“With the arrival of the internet, people booking a holiday now go directly to the provider, and as a result, travel agents have largely disappeared from our high streets.

“I think the same will happen to estate agents in the near future.

“When commissions are so high, would you rather sell your property yourself and spend the money on a holiday or a car, or give it to an estate agent?

“I know what I’d rather do!”

Chaudhry said: “The industry has been slow to change and although online estate agents have emerged in recent years, they have merely copied the existing business model and taken it online, charging fixed fees of £400-£800 to sell a property.

“In my opinion, online agents also unnecessarily insert themselves between the home seller and home buyer, and their arrival does not count as industry disruption.”

While EMOH says it is not an estate agent, it provides services such as professional house photography, valuations, EPCs and floorplans.

    If an industry norm is changed and users start to flock to a different methodology one would assume that industry disruption is taking place.

    This appears to be taking place with the likes of Purplebricks, yet with this site there are only 8 properties showing in the whole of London, so it’s the usual hot air.

    Remember Tepilo? It doesn’t work. They had to change to estate agency to get onto Rightmove, to get the buyers they needed to sell the homes. Every vendor wants to be on Rightmove, that’s just fact.

    Both founders are 25 years old. Really? I wonder if either of them have actually ever sold a house themselves or have the first clue about what is involved? If they did, they might have decided not to bother with such a ridiculous idea and channelled their efforts into their call of duty ranking instead….
