The great property lunch-off returns

Fresh from victory in the Agents Giving Dragon Boat Race, members of the Boys Club are encouraging estate agents and other property professionals to step away from their desks for the second Property Industry Lunch Break later this month.

The initiative, which returns on 26 June, invites people across the sector to take a proper lunch break between 12pm and 2pm, whether that’s with colleagues, friends or industry contacts. There is no registration process or organised event; the aim is simply to encourage people to switch off from work for an hour or two and connect with others.

The first Lunch Break, held in March, attracted strong support and helped raise awareness of the Boys Club community, which now has more than 400 members. The group was established to provide a supportive space for estate agents and property professionals to discuss the challenges of working in the industry and share experiences with peers.

The latest Lunch Break follows the group’s first appearance at a live industry event, where a Boys Club team made up of Facebook community members took part in the Agents Giving Dragon Boat Race. Despite several team members meeting for the first time on the day, the crew went on to win the competition.

Founder Ben Madden said: “What stood out was watching people who’d only ever spoken online suddenly working as a team, having a laugh, getting stuck in together. That’s exactly what this group has always been about, and it’s exactly why we’re doing the lunch break again.

“The first one went better than we expected, and if I’m honest, that probably says more about how much people needed the excuse to stop than anything we did. The Dragon Boat race reminded us how much we get out of actually being in a room, or in a boat, with other people. So the message for round two is the same as before: block out the time now, get a few people together, and use the hour properly.

“The more people who get involved, the better it is for everyone. This isn’t about us running an event, it’s about agents reminding themselves that connection isn’t a luxury, it’s part of doing the job well.”

Property professionals are encouraged to plan ahead for Friday 26 June and share their involvement on social media using the hashtag #PropertyIndustryLunchBreak.
