You can list a property online in minutes – but the physical ‘For Sale’ board still sits outside many homes.
Despite decades of change in how homes are marketed, the traditional board remains a fixture of UK estate agency. As digital platforms, social media and SEO-driven listings dominate the search process, questions persist over what role, if any, the roadside sign now plays in generating leads.
While most property searches now begin online, boards continue to offer immediate local visibility and a simple signal that a home is available. In practice, many agents now rely on a hybrid approach, combining digital reach with physical presence rather than treating them as competing channels.
That balance is now starting to shift further. A new partnership between signage supplier Kremer Signs and data firm VisiProperties is aiming to modernise the traditional board by integrating QR codes directly into signage.
The idea allows passers-by to scan a board from the pavement and be taken straight to the agent’s website, linking the physical sign more directly to online property details and bringing a long-standing marketing tool into a more digital-first workflow.
Kremer Signs director Tom Cummiskey said demand from agents is increasingly focused on practical tools that help secure instructions in a competitive market.
“Our clients expect innovation that genuinely helps them win instructions, and QR.Properties delivers exactly that,” he said. “By integrating this technology into our signage offering, we’re giving agents a powerful new differentiator that enhances every board they install.”
Rather than linking to individual property listings, the QR code directs users to the agent’s main website. The companies say this approach simplifies deployment and avoids the administrative burden of creating and maintaining separate codes for each property.
Kremer Signs already supplies boards to a significant share of the UK market, working with around 60% of estate agents nationwide- giving the rollout potential for rapid scale if adoption follows.
