Letting agency fined again for failing to secure tenancy deposits

A letting agency in Belfast has once again been penalised for not registering tenancy deposits.

Bowden Property Group Ltd was fined £4,000 and £1470 yesterday for failing to protect two tenancy deposits of £1,200 and £490.

The company failed to attend Belfast Magistrates’ Court yesterday and was convicted in their absence for failing to secure the tenancy deposits.

The agency was also fined £1,600 last month for failing to protect a deposit of £340.

The company also failed to attend Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 16 April and was convicted in their absence for failing to secure the tenancy deposit.

The Private Tenancy (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 Article 5B requires landlord/agent (the person who receives the deposit) to secure the tenant deposit within 28 days of receipt.

A Fixed Penalty had been issued for £1,020 but was not paid, therefore Court action resulted.

EYE has failed in its efforts to contact Bowden Property Group.
