MPs begin inquiry on improving the home buying and selling process

The Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (LUHC) will today question consumer, professional and industry bodies, including the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the HomeOwners Alliance, as part of the opening evidence session for their inquiry on improving the home buying and selling process.

The cross-party group of MPs are likely to ask questions on a range of topics relating to the effectiveness of the existing process for buying and selling homes in England.

MPs are likely to ask how the consumer experience could be improved and whether improvements are likely to be gained by voluntary initiatives or whether legislation may be necessary.

In the last months of this Governement I fail to see how we are likely to see any progress on improving the buying and selling process. Certianly not if they are failing to speak to the important people who actually matter in the process – actual conveyancers and house buyers and sellers? And Keir Starmer and Labour are going to have a lot more important issues in their inbox to sort out when they are in Governement and dealing with the conveyancing process will not be high on the list.

What is the real issue here is that none of the people they are seeing as referenced above are conveyancing experts. Worse. a bigger problem is the insidious creep of the Conveyancing Association to a point where they seem to think they can speak for all conveyancers. I have to say we have sat back and let them get to this position, and now is the time we as conveyancers need to strike back and educate people this organisation are the biggest threat to conveyancing today if they are allowed to continue speaking for the profession.

I hope someone on this committee has done their homework and is fully aware of the fact the CA represent all those conveyancers who are the worst of our profession, have been entirely responsible for the dilution of standards and professionalism over the years, are receiving work probably only as a result of a conflict of interest allowed inexplicably to continue by the Government and NTSELAT, create delays and issues in all chains they are involved in, and are now attempting to dumb down the profession to one which ticks only boxes and takes out Indemnity Policies for everything, whilst charging a pittance and taking months to do very little.

Will difficult questions be asked though? I somehow doubt it.

One of the atendees will be passing on a summary of the responsesI received from the BLG membership. i.e. comments and suggestions from actual conveyancers.
