New Ethical Agent Network launches pledging to be ‘different’

Jerry Lyons

A network uniting ethical estate agents launches today with a promise to be ‘different’.

The Ethical Agent Network (EAN) is led by Jerry Lyons, who is also founder of the Estate Agent Content Club.

Lyons said: “The idea for the EAN came about because of our 14 years of experience working with some of the best independent agencies in the UK.

“The one thing they all have in common is they always do the right thing for their clients, colleagues and community.

“There’s a level of ethical excellence that this calibre of agencies always adheres and aspires to and that gave us the idea to build a network of like-minded, non-competing agencies. These are agencies not just with purpose but with a soul and positive cultures.

“The historical model of networks and associations have been driven by groups banding together to help themselves – be that through accessing supplier discounts or referral income.

“There’s also a sense that some aspects of training within the industry have become tired and that we need to seek fresh ideas from new sources and different voices.

“The EAN wants to change that and is seeking agents more focused on constantly improving, supporting their communities and perpetually improving the experiences their clients have. We need agencies that want to help people change their lives, not just their addresses.”

The EAN has a set of six pillars on which it has built its membership offer.

Classes – weekly training on a wide range of topics, including Google Review generation, responsible marketing, prospecting and building strong team cultures.

Content – weekly articles, videos and e-guides from the UK’s #1 estate agent content creator.*

Collaboration – daily access to a forum where ideas, issues and leads are shared.

Community – quarterly campaigns that make it easier for agencies to support good causes.

Connections – bringing like-minded agents together and introducing them to industry partners who share their values (we don’t do kickbacks or commissions).

Care – providing agencies with tools to help them care for people, the planet and their profits.

Lyons continued: “We’ve no interest in being a big network for vanity’s sake. We will build a tight-knit, high-quality group of good human beings, exceptional agents and well-run, profitable, ethical businesses.”

To satisfy the entry criteria, agencies will need at least 50 Google Reviews with a 4.5-star rating, evidence of supporting their community at least twice in the past 12 months and a commitment to member promises.

He added: “The big difference, aside from the emphasis on strong ethics, is that the EAN isn’t a purely pay-to-play network. Our application criteria mean it’s not for everyone, and you can’t simply buy your way in. We’ll turn away more agents than we accept.”

The EAN launches with 25 members.

It features an Advisory Team (A-Team) of leading estate and letting agents, including Asad Riaz of Location, Location, Spencer Lawrence of Paramount Properties, and double-winning agency of the year owner Michelle Gallagher.

The EAN’s A-Team full line up is:

  • Dave Gibbons – Courtyard Homes
  • Nick Cheshire – Nest in Essex
  • Vicky Bibiris and Asad Riaz – Location, Location
  • Michelle Gallagher, JDG Estate Agents
  • Spencer Lawrence – Paramount Properties
  • Abigail Grey – Grey & Co
  • Luke St Clair – Knightsbridge Estate Agents & Valuers

Founding member and Advisory Team member Luke St Clair of Knightsbridge Estate Agents & Valuers in Leicester said: “Being accepted into a network of ethically minded agents and having that stamp of approval means clients know they can trust us.”

In the competitive landscape of the UK property market, it’s refreshing to see initiatives like the Ethical Agent Network (EAN) spearheaded by Jerry Lyons, a name synonymous with integrity and innovation in our EA industry.

While Jerry and I may cross paths as competitors for content production, our friendship and mutual respect transcend professional rivalries. (in fact we share many clients).

His vision for EAN, fostering a community of estate agencies committed not only to their clients but to societal values, is commendable and above all, a testament to his forward thinking outside the box approach.

The network’s focus on ethical practices, continuous improvement & community support aligns with the core values many of us aspire to.

I wholeheartedly 1,000% endorse this initiative and believe in its potential to bring about positive change in our industry (and boy does it need it). In an era where ethical standards are more important than ever, the EAN stands out as a beacon for the future of estate agency.

    Nice one Jezzer

Recently a shop closed in Bournemouth, the local paper headline stated “vegan outlet to close, owner blames rising costs and poor footfall. In truth it was a greengrocers shop that the new owners had branded as a vegan outlet. Sometimes ethical can be your downfall.
