Estate agent killed by cocaine toxicity

An estate agency director who died in October, less than four months after his wife lost her battle with cancer, was killed by cocaine toxicity, a court has heard.

Adam Thompson, who ran Reality Estate Agent in Norwich alongside his beloved wife, Lucy, died earlier this year.

An inquest, which opened into his death on Friday, heard that he had died on 10 October at his home in Mulbarton.

His death came just months after his wife died following a battle with breast cancer spanning more than five years.

Jacqueline Lake, senior coroner for Norfolk, said that pathologists had identified his medical cause of death as cocaine and opioid toxicity.

A spokesman for Reality Estate Agent said at the time: “It is with great sadness that I have to announce the passing of my fellow director Adam, who tragically lost his battle with life, while grieving the recent death of his wife Lucy.

“My sincere condolences are with his family and children at this time.”

Adam joined Reality Estate Agent in 2016 as a director after Lucy founded the company in 2009.

The pair got married at Norwich Cathedral on 13 July 2019, after Lucy had been given the all-clear by doctors.

But she was told by doctors in June 2020 that she had multiple tumours on her liver as a result of secondary breast cancer.

Lucy and Adam, with friends, raised almost £14,000 for the Big C charity through a series of fund-raising events, including the couple skydiving at Ellough helicopter base near Beccles in May 2021.

A 400-mile cycle ride and 25km walk were also part of those efforts and Lucy’s sisters Sandy and Hayley were part of a team which took part in a firewall for the Big C at Castle Gardens in Norwich in August.

Very disrespectful. Whilst I fully respect your right to your own opinion and your right to express it, there are times and places.

I think you may have lost much or all of any credibility that you have here

I think it’s poor judgment to post this story. It’s got nothing to do with property and it’s not “news” as this could occur in any profession or sector.

The poor man went through hell when he lost his wife to cancer and no one needs to know that he turned to drugs to try and cope with his grief.

Any remaining family members should be given privacy in my opinion.

Hi Vanessa, I respect your concern for the family, I read this with love and compassion for the family after this tragic loss.
Men need reminding to reach out to their friends when they’re feeling low and turn to them for support without shame, instead of drink or drugs.
I hope the family will want this story to steer others, going through grief or tough times, towards taking therapies and grief counselling.
We both share the same concern for the family and I’m pleased to have read it. Sincere best wishes Lance
