Well-known estate agent Peter Everett, currently a director and head of office at Savills Rickmansworth, has announced his decision to retire due to health issues.
Everett, who started out in agency more than 40 years ago, also previously worked as Hamptons’ former head of sales, commercial director at Yopa, among his various other roles.
Everett announced his decision to retire on social media revealing citing health issues. He says he will step down from his role at Savills in Rickmansworth on 15 December.
He posted:
“So, after more years in the estate agency industry than I care to remember, I have decided that it’s time to retire from full time work and will step down from my current role on 15th December.
“Unfortunately I’ve had a few health issues this year and with my 63rd birthday looming on the horizon I now need to prioritise my personal well-being by reducing the stress and pressure of working life especially in what is a very tough market that probably isn’t going to get much easier next year.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed going back to the ‘sharp end’ of agency in Rickmansworth where my agency career started back in the early 80’s after 25 years of telling everyone how to do it. Its been a very neat way to ‘bookend’ my career and I’ve certainly learnt a great deal and its also changed my perception on a number of things and if I could have my time again in senior management roles I would probably approach certain things a little differently. I’m also very grateful for the incredible support that I’ve received from Savills and proud of the results that the brilliant Rickmansworth team have achieved in what is a very competitive market.
“In making this decision I’ve also reflected on the memories built across five decades in the industry and some of the brilliant people I’ve had the privilege of working with who have helped to shape my career; far too many to mention but you know who you are. My health issues have also heightened my sense of mortality and reminded me of all of the incredibly talented people that we’ve tragically lost over the years some of whom perhaps ignored the warning signs.
“My fondest memories go back to the early days with Weller Hill Hubble, the franchising days with Your Move, the 12 years at Hamptons especially the acquisitions and expansion work and the 18 months of consultancy work I did in prop tech with Offr and with local businesses before joining Savills. There have certainly been a few wrong turns and decisions over the years but each experience has been a learning opportunity. It has been a very rewarding experience being a mentor with Agents Together and I hope to be able to continue that.
“This is hopefully more au revoir rather than goodbye as I’m not planning on disappearing altogether and will be a part-time consultant with Savills helping to support the Rickmansworth office through 2024 and possibly a couple of other unrelated projects. I’m also hoping that my guitar playing will improve with all the extra practice I’ll be able to fit in!!
“Finally, a huge thank you to all of those who have helped to support and guide me through the years and those who have put up with my sometimes over-competitive approach.
“42 years – it’s been a blast.
“Wishing all of my agency friends and contacts a very happy, safe and peaceful Christmas.”
Good decision Peter, time to put your health ahead of your clients.
Best wishes for the future with good memories to cherish.
