Estate agent Adam Hesse has been nominated for a JustGiving fundraising award.
Hesse, who is a director of Aston Mead estate agents in Surrey and Berkshire, has become one of the nominees in the online social platform’s global search to find people who have made good things happen for the causes that are important to them.
In September last year, Hesse and his wife Elisa raised £5,400 by running the Bristol half marathon together in just under three hours to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House – an independent charity which provides home-from-home accommodation, free of charge, to families of critically ill children.
He has been nominated by Lynsey Sizer, whose six-month old son Riley spent nearly three months in the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford after being struck down with a brain infection whilst battling a serious dose of swine flu.
Lynsey explained: “When the infection struck we were airlifted from our local hospital to the John Radcliffe in Oxford about 40 miles from our home, and immediately given accommodation in Ronald McDonald House while Riley fought for his life.
“We had our other twin and our older daughter to think about, so having a base near our poorly son made an incredible difference to keeping our family together. We had a bedroom there with a cot, as well as use of the kitchen and lounge, allowing us to give our hearts and minds moments of respite away from his bedside.
“Adam has such a busy life, juggling his family, work, and commuting. It’s awe-inspiring that he took time out to make all of this happen and raise so much money for something that makes a stay in hospital so much more bearable.”
The Hesses had also made use of the facilities at Ronald McDonald House in Bristol when their 20-month old daughter Indigo was admitted to hospital, suffering from acute kidney failure after catching a virulent strain of the E-coli virus.
Commenting on his JustGiving nomination, Adam said: “We know from personal experience how Ronald McDonald House keeps families together by providing all the comforts they would expect to find in their own homes.
“It’s a huge honour to have been nominated for raising money for a charity which helps families going through the most stressful times of their lives, and wanted to repay them for the amazing work they do.”
The JustGiving shortlisted finalists will be announced on July 14, with the winners decided by public vote and revealed at a ceremony in London on September 23.
