Nearly half of property professionals, including agents, developers, lenders and conveyancers, believe that the shortage of homes to sell is the biggest single problem for the housing market.
Out of 159 respondents to a survey last week by conveyancing firm myhomemove, 47% believed that lack of stock is holding back the market.
A further 24% thought lack of mortgage availability is the biggest single problem, while 16% cited lack of new-builds.
Just two in five thought that the new Government’s target of building 200,000 homes a year is achievable.
I got a mortgage 5 years ago, my income is higher now and equity but I cant get a mortgage, I am mortgage locked like many others I cannot put my house up for sale, low stock, high demand = rising prices.
