Foxtons branch features in Brixton protest song video

The Foxtons branch which became the focus of a ‘anti-gentrification’ protest last month when a window was smashed and graffiti daubed, appears in a new song and music video.

The video features Lara Lee, the Brixton singer recently mentored by Sir Tom Jones on The Voice, who was homeless for a time during her childhood.

It also features rapper and activist Potent Whisper who, in an earlier demonstration at Foxtons, entered the branch office complete with sleeping bag while other protesters staged a lie-in outside.

Film footage for the new single was shot at the later Reclaim Brixton demonstration.

Potent Whisper said: “The song Brixton First explicitly addresses the huge numbers of ongoing evictions, tripled rent prices and Lambeth Council’s failure to act in the interest of the people it claims to represent.

“However, perhaps more importantly, the song highlights that these are issues we face not only in Brixton but in London as a whole.

“The song is a call for direct action across the capital, starting with Brixton.”

The single is one in a line of arts pieces due to be released by the multi-arts community campaign ‘Our Brixton’.

Foxtons, which has steadfastly declined to comment on its repeated targeting by protesters, opened its Brixton branch in March 2013.

The video may not be your cup of tea and you may take issue with the fact that an estate agent has become the symbol of what has been described as a latter-day class war.

However, it undoubtedly articulates what many feel are the housing issues – both social and private – that matter today.

Thanks for sharing the nice piece of article with us. I have really enjoyed the little bit of it. Entertainment is the most important factor of our like and i think movies are the best source for it. Mostly i used online sources like letmewatchthis letsmewatchthis.net for this purpose. After a hard day’s work everybody dreams about rest and relaxation. The best way to escape from the routine of everyday life is a boring dive into an exciting movie. If before the common man had to be content with what is shown on TV, but now with the development of the Internet has a great opportunity to choose the movies to their liking.
