Property website rapped by watchdog over inaccurate listing

A property website has been told that it must ensure the price and accuracy of its listings in future after it advertised a “huge double room” with an ensuite, balcony, and “stunning kitchen”, offering a total of two rooms. It was advertised at £200 per week.

In fact, it was a room in a three-bedroom property with a shared bathroom, advertised on London Homes. The true rent was £263 per week.

The person who went to view the property complained to the Advertising Standards Authority, which agreed the online description was misleading.

Londonplaces Camden, trading as London Homes, did not respond to the watchdog’s inquiries, although it did remove the listing. The ASA said it was concerned by the lack of response and also ruled that the advert must not appear again.
