Former President of NAEA sadly passes away

Everybody at Property Industry Eye was saddened to hear of the passing of ex-President of the NAEA, Christopher Hall.

Christopher Hall

Christopher Clive Hall, passed away on Saturday, 5th December 2020.

Nick Salmon, managing director of EYE, commented: “I got to know Chris Hall through us both being Council members of the National Association of Estate Agents. That was in the days when the NAEA was an independent and democratic organisation that elected its governing body – which was in turn accountable to the members.

“Christopher was passionate about agency, and, at that time, the NAEA. The NAEA had voted overwhelmingly to oppose the introduction of the Home Information Pack (HIP) and Chris lobbied strongly for them to be abandoned. My campaigning against the pack, via SPLINTA [Sellers Pack Law is not the Answer], made us natural allies and Chris played a significant role behind the scenes in getting people to support the campaign, especially during his period on the Presidential team – as President-elect, President, and then past-President of the organisation in the mid-2000s.

“He spent nearly 40 years in the property industry and in his business life he was always fizzing with ideas, always looking for the next opportunity. In recent years, out of the blue he would phone up and say ‘What do you think about this?!’, and proceed to tell me about his latest plans.

“He was a kind and thoughtful man, generous of spirit and an ambassador for our industry. He will be sadly missed.”

    A gentleman!

If every agent had Chris’s qualities, integrity and drive this industry would be a profession.

Exactly David. It is very rare for someone to be so universally respected and admired. He did a great deal for NAEA and Homelink and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

I’ve known Chris throughout all his time in estate agency and with the Norfolk NAEA and agree with the comments already made that he had tremendous enthusiasm for the profession, ever keen to improve standards and always on the look out for a new venture. I used to ask him if he ever managed to sleep with all the time he must have spent analysing the levels of business being undertaken by local agents and keeping up to date with new and emerging legislation for the industry.

A great ambassador for estate agency who will be sadly missed. My condolences to his family. RIP Chris

“That was in the days when the NAEA was an independent and democratic organisation that elected its governing body  –  which was in turn accountable to its members”.  Chris personified that ethos and always listened to what people had to say.  He had a great sense of humour and influenced Government.  He will be sadly missed.
